Quick answer
- Curbside bulky item collection is provided twice per year; brush is collected separately, also twice per year.
- You are notified of your collection week 7–10 days ahead by a door hanger. Use the City's Find My Collection Day tool for an estimated timeframe.
- Pile limit: no more than eight cubic yards, placed within eight feet of the curb.
- Set out no later than 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled collection week. Collections can take up to a week to complete.
- Mixing brush into a bulky pile, blocking it, or setting it out after crews have passed can bring a fine of up to $2,000 per day plus a collection and disposal fee.

How to set out bulky items
- The date on the door hanger is when your pile should be set out, not the actual collection day.
- Place the pile at the curb in front of your house, within eight feet of the curb, even if your garbage is normally collected in the alley.
- Keep piles clear of obstructions: not in front of parked cars or under low-hanging tree limbs.
- Do not place material on vacant lots or on top of water meters.
- Keep brush and bulky items in separate piles; they are collected separately.

Missed collection or need an extra pickup?
You can report a missed collection online or by calling 3-1-1 (210-207-6000). If you need an additional bulky (or brush) collection, you can request an out-of-cycle collection online or through 3-1-1. The fee is based on the size of the pile, a staff member provides a free estimate, and after the fee is paid the collection is made within two working days.
Between collections: Bulky Waste Collection Centers
The City runs four Bulky Waste Collection Centers for its residential customers. Bring a recent CPS Energy bill showing payment of the City's Environmental Fee and a photo ID; if you pay the environmental fee, the visit is free. Hours are Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bulky items are limited to four cubic yards and construction debris to one cubic yard. Loads must not be over the fender wheel of the truck bed, and materials from commercial haulers are not accepted. The centers accept some items curbside collection does not, such as glass and mirrors, auto parts, flattened cardboard, and sinks, tubs and countertops. They do not accept mattresses with blood stains or bed bugs, household trash, brush, or soil, rocks and concrete.
